The German mezzo-soprano, Alexandra Paulmichl, took took piano and singing lessons at the age of 12, and in her early years was several times winner at the Jugend musiziert competition. She studied at the Staatlichen Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Heidelberg-Mannheim with Professor Doris Denzler and Professor Snezana Stamenkovi. In addition, she attended master-classes with Anna Reynolds-Cox, Iris Vermillion, Ingeborg Danz und Claudia Eder. After two graduate degrees for singing pedagogy and concert singing, she completed her studies in 2007 with the concert exam. Another artistic focus is the Lied to which she devoted herself for two years in the Lieder class of professors Mitsuko Shirai and Hartmut Höll at the Hochschule für Musik in Karlsruhe, and graduated with honours. She holds a scholarship from the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation and the Richard Wagner Verbandes (Richard Wagner Society) and was honoured in 2008 with the Mendelssohn Prize of the City of Frankfurt.
Alexandra Paulmichl is active at home and abroad as a recital and concert singer. In these areas she has worked, inter alia, with Barockorchester L’arpa festante, Baden-Badener Philharmonie, Bach-Collegium Stuttgart, Kammerphilharmonie St. Petersburg, the Festival Orchestra of Oregon Bach Festival in Eugene, USA and Radio-Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart conducted by Helmuth Rilling. In addition, she also appears regularly as a soloist with the Solistenensemble Stimmkunst (Director: Kay Johannsen).
On the opera stage, Alexandra Paulmichl has already been seen and heard in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, and operettas such as Der Zigeunerbaron (The Gypsy Baron) and Eine Nacht in Venedig (A Night in Venice), but also in contemporary works such as the mono-opera Like Writing on Water by Garry Eister. With the Nationaltheater Mannheim she has a long-term regular cooperation (Papageno spielt auf der Zauberflöte). Further engagements have led her to the Schauspielhaus Stuttgart (Meisterklasse), the Internationale Opernakademie Bad Orb (Tiefland) and recently the Landestheater Magdeburg, where she has been seen as Medoro in Antonio Vivaldi's Orlando furioso. Even more recent engagements include, inter alia, concerts of J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) and Felix Mendelssohn's Elijah in Germany and France, and her role debut as Mercedes in Carmen at the Zwingenberger Schloßfestspielen 2008. |
