The German contralto, Brigitte Pfretzschner, studied at the Carl Maria von Weber-Musikhochschule Dresden with Klara Elfriede. She contubnued her studies with the Dresden pesagogues Marga Seidel and Senta Kutzschbach.
Brigitte Pfretzschner nade her debut in 1959 at the Staatsoper Dresdens Marcellina in The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart. She had a long and successful career in this opera house and was later engaged at the same time also at the Staatsoper Berlin. She has performed at the opera houses of Leipzig, Budapest and Leningrad and at the Opera Festival of Wiesbaden. Her dark timbre and rich voice enabled her singing successfully both on stage and in conzert repertoire.
