The German tenor and church musician, Günther Pods, was born to the preacher George Pods in Angerburg, East Prussia and grew up in Memel (now Klaipeda/Lithuania). In 1939 he finished high school, received his first organist post at St. Jacobi in Memel and in December the same year was drafted into the Wehrmacht. At the end of the war he experienced in the Wehrmacht-Lazarett Travemünde (army field hospital). He studied church music at the Landesmusikschule Schleswig-Holstein. In 1946: he passed the B-exam and in 1948 the A-exam as state private music teacher in singing.
Günther Pods served as Kantor and organist at St. Johannes Lübeck-Kücknitz (1945-1948); St. Gertrud, Lübeck (1948-1950); Hauptkirche “Zur Heiligen Dreifaltigkeit”, Hamburg-Altona (1950-1952);: St. Michaelis Eutin (1952-1982), in 1966 he was appointed Church Music Director (KMD).Her derbned from 1983 to 1986 at St. Gabriel, Kiel-Russee and since March 1, 1987 at St. Gertrud, Lübeck.
Other activities: from 1945 to 1970 he sang as oratorio singer (tenor); from 1950 to 1988 he was conductor of the Lübecker Kammerchor; from 1950 to 1960: lecturer in voice at the Musikakademie; from 1961 to 1967: lecturer in the Music Department of the Johann-Heinrich-Voß-Gymnasium Eutin; from 1971 to 1976: lecturer at the Musikhochschule Lübeck (choral conducting and voice training); from 1976 to 1982: Educational Director at the Kreismusikschule Ostholstein in Eutin. |
