The Dutch baritone, Michel Poels, completed successfully his studies at the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam, under Charles van Tassel, He then took, for a number of years, private lessons from the bass Pieter Van den Berg and from Ronald Klekamp. He has taken master-classes with, among others, Margreet Honig, Rudolf Janssen, Meinard Kraak and Udo Reinemann. In 1994, he won the Young Dutch music Talent Foundation Award for his age group. During the finals of the "Erna Spoorenberg Vocalist Presentation" he obtained a positive recommendation.
Michel Poels has developed over the last few years into a versatile solo and ensemble vocalist. He has performed diverse opera roles such as Morales and Dancairo in Georges Bizet’s Carmen and Falke in Die Fledermuis by J. Strauss. He sang in the solo quartet in the opera Thyeste by Jan van Vlijmen with the National Reisopera conducted by Stefan Asbury. As a concert singer he has appeared in various productions including the Mattheus Passion by Louis Andriessen and The Voynich Cyphermanuscript by Hanz-Peter Kyberz (Basel/ Geneva) conducted by Piërre-André Vallade.
Next to his freelance projects Michel Poels is a member of the Cappella Amsterdam (Director: Daniel Reuss). He also sings in the vocal quartet Quatre Bouches.
Michel Poels l is a singing instructor at the V A K Centre for the Arts in Delft. He currently lives in Haarlem, the Netherlands. |
