The Austrealian baritone, music teacher psychotherapist, Antony Ransome, obtained his Baachelor of Art degre with Honors from Melbourne University. He continued his studies in Geneva.
After his studies and a period as an Australian diplomat and a teacher, Antony Ransome turned to a singing career in 1968, performing in London and Europe with with noted conductors and orchestras including the New Philharmonia Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra and Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra among others and on radio and television (including frequentl the BBC), in concert halls and opera houses throughout Europe.
Antony Ransome founded the Wren Consort for performances and recordings of Baroque cantatas and has sung over sixty roles in the operatic baritone repertory including Scarpia and Jochanaan in Budapest, world premieres in Munich and Bologna and many Verdi and verismo roles in northern Germany. He has been a teacher of singing since 1973. As well as writing articles and giving lectures on music generally, he has made a name in recent years as the initiator of opera therapy seminars, which, after writing a book on the subject and pursuing studies in psychotherapy (with emphasis on Gestalt therapy), he has developed in Germany and Italy.
Antony Ransome returned to Australia where he continues to perform, teach, write, conduct and organise concerts. He is the conductor of the Southern Peninsula Singers and Classical Music Director for RPP FM. He offers psychotherapy and group/individual counselling with drama and music and would welcome inquiries. He is also available for singing engagements, particulary as oratorio singer or performing his large Baroque cantata repertoire, and for singing lessons, lectures and guided opera tours throughout the world. |
