Gabrielle Razafinjatovo (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: 1994 - North Dakota, USA

The American mezzo-soprano and music teacher, Gabrielle Razafinjatovo (neé Damschen), obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Voice and Piano Summa Cum Laude from Minot State University (May 2017); and her Master of Music degree in Voice Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Colorado Boulder (August 2020-May 2022), where she studied with Julie Simson and Abigail Nims. Notable achievements include 2nd place in the University of Colorado Boulder College of Music Honors Competition, multiple finalist awards in the Denver Lyric Opera Guild Competition for Colorado Singers, Encouragement Award in the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, and finalist in Colorado Bach Ensemble’s Competition for Young Artists. She also was co-winner of 2024 Young American Singers’ Competition.

Gabrielle Razafinjatovo is celebrated for her expressive musicality and rich vocal tone, and is an active performer and teacher based in Colorado. She performed with the Minot Symphony Orchestra as winner of the MSO Senior Honors Competition and as a soloist in Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria. Past roles include Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Mercedes in Georges Bizet's Carmen, and Third Lady in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, with the Western Plains Opera Company. She has also performed as a soloist with Boulder Opera Company, Loveland Opera Theatre, Opera Fort Collins, Western Plains Opera, Art Song Colorado, Colorado Bach Ensemble, Seicento Baroque Ensemble, Boulder Chamber Orchestra, Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra, Aurora Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of the Springs, and Central City Opera. Recent engagements include alto soloist in W.A. Mozart's Requiem and La Frugola in Puccini’s Il Tabarro. She married Vonjy Razafinjatovo on August 12, 2017. She taught at at Children's Music Academy of Minot. She is is a 2023-2025 Fellowship Artist at Boulder Bach Festival, and a member of the Fellowship Artist Vocal Quartet. In this capacity she performs, presents, and teaches masterclasses throughout the region at a variety of schools and public venues. She currently lives in Boulder, Colorado.
