The German bass, Thomas Ruf, completed his singing studies at the Mozarteum in Salzburg in opera and concert with honours. He then continued his studies with Hartmut Höll and Mitsuko Shirai, and Anna Reynolds and Jean Cox. In addition to private lessons with Franz Reuter, Munich, he attended numerous master-classes, including with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Thomas Hampson.
Thomas Ruf is a versatile soloist, who had his first engagement at the Stadttheater Augsburg. From then on followed opera productions in Geneva, Zürich, Salzburg, and several cities in Bavaria. His roles have included the title roles of Mozart's Don Giovanni and Georg Philipp Telemann's Pimpinone, Escamillo in Georges Bizet's Carmen and the King in Die Kluge by Carl Orff.
Thomas Ruf's extensive concert activity with broad oratorio repertoire with works from the Renaissance to the 20th century as well as various Lieder recitals with all cycles of the famous Lieder repertoire led him to numerous countries in Europe, Japan and the USA. He made a name for itself with solo performances at various festivals, such as the EXPO in Hannover, Salzburg's Kulturtagen and the concerts Orff-Concerts in Andechs, Rheingau Musik-Festival, Bodensee-Festival, Musiksommer Bad Schallerbach, Barock-Festival Varazdin. He has also taken part in premieres of contemporary music, and CD, TV and radio recordings. |
