Jörn Sakuth (Bass)

Born: Saßnitz on the Island of Rügen, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany

The German bass, Jörn Sakuth, received his first musical education in Saßnitz and with the Rundfunkjugendchor Wernigerode/Harz. He first studied in Halle / Saale, German studies and and music education, then singing at the Hochschule für Musik in Leipzig and the Hochschule für Musik in Weimar.

One focus of his concert activities are the cantatas and oratorios of J.S. Bach. He sang under the direction of Helmuth Rilling and took part in the cantata performances by the Thomanerchor Leipzig under the direction of Thomaskantor Georg Christoph Biller. With the Leipziger Universitätschor he sang both J.S. Bach’s Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) and Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) (scenic performance) in La Chaise Dieu (France). He has worked regularly With numerous other ensembles and conductors. He sang with the Kammerchor Braunlage for the first time in 2008, performing the bass parts in J.S. Bach’s Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248), Parts 1-3.

As a Lieder singer Jörn Sakuth is dedicated particularly the compositions of Franz Schubert, Robert Schumann, Felix Mendelssohn and Hugo Wolf. He now lives in Leipzig.
