Jean-Claude Sarragosse (Bass-Baritone)

Born: France

The French bass-baritone, Jean-Claude Sarragosse. began his career with William Christie's Les Arts Florissants. Subsequently, he sang oratorios as a guest artist with various vocal and instrumental ensembles under the direction of, among others, Philippe Herreweghe, Joël Suhubiette, Jean Maillet, Jean Tubéry and Jean-Claude Malgoire, and gave recitals with pianists Corine Durous or N. Steinberg.

On the opera stage, he has sung most of the important roles for bass-baritone by W.A. Mozart; Colline in Puccini’s La Bohème; Prince Gremin in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, the four devils, Général Boum, Agamemnon, and Bobinet in Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann; Claudio in Les Caprices de Marianne by Sauget; and, in contemporary repertoire, he premiered the role of the Beast in La nuit les brutes by Roland Auzet. Recently he was King Cosmos in Offenbach’s Voyage dans la Lune in a national tour with the Opera Eclaté company, Père Grenu in Ciboulette by Reynaldo Hahn at the Opéra comique, and the Chief of Police in Le Balcon by Péter Eötvös at the Théâtre de l'Athénée.
