Matthias Schubotz (Tenor)

Born: Borna, Germany

The German tenor, Matthias Schubotz, received his first musical training in the Leipzig’s Thomanerchor under the Thomaskantors Hans-Joachim Rotzsch and George Christoph Biller. Since 1997 he studies singing at the Leipzig Musikhochschule with Professor Hans-Joachim Beyer. He has participated in master-classes with Scot Weir (in the context of the Bachwoche Stuttgart), Peter Kooy, Svjen Bjørkøy and Graham Johnson.

Matthias Schubotz’ repertoire emphasis is on the vocal works of J.S. Bach. He has sung, among other things, at the St. Thomas Church with the Leipzig’s Thomanerchor, with the Tölzer Knabenenchor and has participated in various CD, broadcast and TV productions.

Matthias Schubotz co-operates regularly as a soloist with the Leipzig’s ensemble Amici Musicae (Director: Ron-Dirk Entleutner). He appeard the role of Pylades in a production of Gluck’s Iphigenie auf Tauris. In addition he sang the Hochschule production of Haydn’s Die Welt auf dem Monde (Cecco), Orff’s Die Kluge (Eselmann), W.A. Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte (Monostatos, 2nd Priest, 1st Geharnischter), as well as Zaide (Gomatz, Soliman).

Matthias Schubotz is regularly a guest of various international Festivals, such as Bachfest Leipzig, Rheingau Music Festival and the Merseburger Orgeltagen.
