The American tenor, David Seay, studied Music Education with Choral Emphasis and German Language Teaching Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, graduating with Honors (2016). As a winner of the Germany scholarship in singing, he completed his Master of Music degree in concert singing at the Musikhochschule Nürnberg, as a student of Martin Platz (2016-2019). His training with Kammersänger Professor Peter Schreier and Professor Siegfried Jerusalem was an important stimulus for his artistic work.
During his studies, David Seay was extremely involved in the music scene in and around Nuremberg. He appeared as a tenor soloist in George Frideric Handel's Messiah at the Frauenkirche in Nuremberg, as well as in Felix Mendelssohn's Lobgesang at the opening concert in the Meistersingerkirche in Nuremberg. In 2018 he sang the role of Ferrando in W.A. Mozart's Cosi fan tutte, performed by the Musikhochschule Nürnberg. In May 2019, he performed for the first time as a tenor soloist at the Kirchen der Erzdiözese in Munich in Haydn's Die Schöpfung.
"An impressive, clear tenor part." That is how David Seay is called in the Freie Presse Sachsen and also in the National American Organist Magazine. His passion for J.S. Bach's music is evident in his numerous appearances as a J.S. Bach soloist. In 2017 he sang J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) with the Nürnberger Staatstheater, whereby he was cover for the Evangelist and for the tenor soloist. In 2018 he won a scholarship from the Bachgesellschaft Deutschlands and performed at the Neue Bachgesellschaft: Bachfest in Tübingen. As a J.S. Bach soloist, he also went on tour with the Utah Baroque Choir and performed at the Freiberger Dom and the Dresdner Frauenkirche. He also sang as a J.S. Bach soloist at the Nürnberger Meistersingerhalle and at the National Conference of the Federation of American Organists in Houston, Texas. He recently performed his first performance as an evangelist in J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) at the Egidienkirche in Nuremberg. He also published a J.S. Bach-specialized thesis in the USA called "Bach Evangelists and their Ornaments in the 21st Century." A further publication with the title "Bach Arias, rearranged for voice and organ," is imminent.
David Seay is not only active as a music performer - but also as a teacher in the Nuremberg music community and in the surrounding area. He is also active as a choir director and liturgical music accompanist in the der Kirche Jesu Christi in Nuremberg. In Erlangen he works as a music teacher at the Franconian International School (since December 201`6). He currently lives in Nuremberg, Germany. |
