The Filipino composer, bass and choral conductor, Carlo Serrano, studied at La Salle Greenhills in Quezon City, Philippines. He holds an AB in Interdisciplinary Studies from the Ateneo de Manila Univeristy (2005-2010) and a Bachelor of Music in Composition from the University of the Philippines Diliman (2009-2015). He obtained his Master of Music degre in Choral Conducting from the Eastman School of Music in Rocherster, New York (2015-2017), where he studied under Dr. William Weinert. Since 2017, he studies for Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Theory at the New England Conservatory in Boston, Massachusetts. His musical training includes composition under Josefino Toledo, music theory under Katherine Trangco and Dr. Jonas Baes, voice under Christopher Arceo and Jonathan Velasco, and choral conducting under Eudenice Palaruan and Dr. William Weinert.
In the Philippines, Carlo Serrano has sung with notable choirs such as the Ateneo College Glee Club, the country's oldest university choir, and the all-male choir Aleron. He served as Choral Director at National Shrine of the Sacred Heart (2009-2012); and as bass section leader for the University of the Philippines Church of the Risen Lord Choir (2010-2016), and. He especially enjoys teaching music theory and aural skills to amateur choirs, and is deeply interested in furthering research in that area. He directed the choir at the First Congregational Church in Spencerport in Rochester (September 2016-May 2017). He currently lives in Boston, Massachusetts. |
