Christopher Short (Bass-Baritone)

Born: July 4, 1984 - Raleigh, North Carolina, USA

The American bass-baritone, arts administrator, and teaching artist, Christopher Short, graduated from the East Carolina University School of Music with a double major in Vocal Performance and Music Theory/Composition (2015-2019).

Christopher Short has traveled and recorded internationally as a choral musician and soloist in a variety of operatic, concert, and oratorio performances. and is an award-winning composer. As a composer, he pursues collaboration with other artists to present a unique voice to the intricacies of our collective human experience. As an active arts administrator, he works with a variety of nonprofit arts organizations to make a lasting difference in communities nationwide. He is serving as the Executive Director for the Raleigh Youth Choir, as a board member for Triangle Youth Music, and as the Executive Director and co-founder of the professional choral ensemble, Servire, along with its overarching non-profit, Chamber Voices for Change. He seeks to connect community members with the needs of a localized philanthropic organization through benefit concerts, music education outreach, and hands-on service work. As a teaching artist, he invites students to express themselves through the power of music-making.

Christopher Short has been Choral Scholar at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Greenville, North Carolina (August 2015-May 2017); Bass Choral Scholar at First Presbyterian Church Rocky Mount, North Carolina (August 2017-May 2019); Former Philanthropy Intern at North Carolina Symphony Orchestra in Raleigh, North Carolina (June 2019-August 2019); Box Office Associate at North Carolina Symphony Orchestra (August 2019-January 2021); Staff Singer at Duke University Chapel (August 2019-May 2023); Education Assistant at North Carolina Symphony Orchestra (February 2021-February 2023); Executive Director at Raleigh Youth Choir (since July 2023); Board Member at Triangle Youth Music (since September 2019); Bass Choral Scholar at Christ Church Raleigh (Episcopal) (since August 2019).

During the 2020-2023 seasons, Christopher Short was a member of the US VOCES8 Scholars program (August 2020-February 2023) and now serves as a teaching artist and workshop coordinator with the US VOCES8 Foundation, leading educational workshops nationwide. He also served on the Emerging Professional Leadership Council for Early Music America. In addition to performing with Servire, notable recent engagements include performances with Three Notch’d Road, GRAMMY-nominated True Concord Voices & Orchestra, Duke University Bach Cantata Series, Harmonia Stellarum Houston, the world premiere of Christopher Tin’s The Lost Birds with VOCES8, the Handel & Haydn Society alongside the New York Philharmonic Orchestra at Lincoln Center, the VOCES8 Foundation Choir on the LIVE From London series, and as a soloist with the North Carolina Master Chorale and Duke Bach Cantata Series. He was recently named the winner of the 2025 Colorado Bach Ensemble Young Artist Competition.

Christopher Short hopes to use music as a bridge to connect people with their surrounding community through artful storytelling in performance, localized philanthropic efforts, arts administration, and educational outreach work. In his free time, he has a passion for cooking extravagant meals, traveling, spending time with his wife and dog, and watching his favorite sports teams.
