The Hungarian baritone, Dávid Tarnai, studied singing in Budapest: (Aelia Sabina Zeneiskola - solo voice department - teacher: Melinda Lugosi; (1999-2005); Béla Bartók Conservatory - solo voice department - teacher: Mária Fekete; (2005-2007); Pécs (University of Pécs Department of Music - classical voice performance, B.A. - teacher: Tamás Szüle; 2007-2010) and Szeged (University of Szeged Department of Music - opera voice performance, MA - teacher: István Andrejcsik; 2010-2012); his teachers were István Andrejcsik, Mária Fekete, Melinda Lugosi, Gábor Németh, Tamás Szüle and Mária Temesi. His current voice teacher is Gábor Németh (since 2013). He has won the Republic Scholarship twice. In addition to his studies and after them, he continued his education in master-classes with Éva Marton (Szeged, 2009, 2010, 2011), Yevgenyij Nyesztyerenko (Budapest, 2009, 2010, 2012), Irena Sylia, György Korondi, Ilona Tokody and Éva Bátori ((Budapest, 2013)), among others. He has performed successfully in several competitions and career projects: in 2005 he won 2nd place at the National Singing Competition between Conservatories; in 2017 he was a special prize winner at the Iuventus Canti International Singing Competition; in 2018 he won 2nd place at the Szecsődi-Réti Singing Competition.
In 2012, at the Viva Vox Opera Festival in Cluj-Napoca, Dávid Tarnai's performance of Prince Bluebeard's Castle won the best performance award. Between 2012-2013, he was at the Szeged National Theatre, and since July 2013 he has been a member of the Hungarian State Opera.
Dávid Tarnai has been seen in many roles from time to time, e.g. Uberto from The Handmaid's Tale, Colas, Bartolo, Masetto, Don Alfonso from W.A. Mozart's operas. He has also enjoyed singing Verdi, Donizetti, Puccini roles (Belcore, Don Pasquale, Monterone, Sparafucile, Colline, Sekrestyés) and of course in Béla Bartók and Kacsóh, Zoltán Kodály works (Bluebeard, János vitéz Bagója and Strázsamestre, Háry János Marci bácsija). In recent years, he has been seen on the stage of the Opera House in Ránki Pomádé in King's New Clothes (as Tobias the Spitter) and in Stephen the King (as Pázmány). |
