The American tenor, David Tayloe, holds degrees from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Louisiana State University, and the University of Miami. He is currently pursuing a Doctoral of Musical Arts at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester New York. He has participated in master-classes by distinguished artists such as Renée Fleming and Wolfram Rieger.
David Tayloe has been praised for his finely toned lyric tenor. His recent roles with the University of Miami include the title role in Albert Herring, The Student in Strawberry Fields, and Victor Frankenstein in Libby Larsen’s Frankenstein, which was performed at the Center for Contemporary Opera in New York City. In addition, performing as the role of Anatomy in the premiere of Beatrice Bends for her Blue Ball by Thomas Sleeper. Mr. Tayloe performed with the Louisiana State University Opera theater as Rinucchio in Gianni Schicchi, Gastone in La Traviata, the title role in Leonard Bernstein’s Candide, and Mozart in Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s Mozart and Salieri.
As a proponent of modern opera, David Tayloe has been a performer at the Virginia Arts Festival for the Duffy Composers Institute, resulting in numerous premiers of operatic works. Equally at home in opera, Lieder, and concert and oratorio repertoire, he has performed as the soloist for numerous masses and oratorio throughout the USA. He was a finalist in the American Bach Society national competition in 2012, and as a Semi Finalist in the Lyndon Woodside oratorio competition. David has been a performer with the Santa Fe Desert Chorale and the Grammy nominated ensemble Seraphic Fire.
David Tayloe has sung under the batons of James Allbritten, Jeannete Sorrel, James Meena, John Keene, Alan Johnson, Patrick Quigley, Julian Shew and Eugene Sirotkine. He has made performances with the Santa Fe Opera, Opera Carolina, Piedmont Opera Company, the A.J. Fletcher Institute, LSU Opera, Opera Louisiane, Frost Opera Theater and the Center for Contemporary Opera. Tayloe can also be seen on the Newport Classic DVD label, in LSU Opera’s production of Willie Stark by Carlisle Floyd. |
