The German baritone, Robert Titze, was pupil of Fred Husler in Berlin.
Robert Titze was active almost exclusively as concert and oratorio singer. His appearances on the stage were limited to occasional rare appearances. But he mastered a more extensive repertoire in the concert hall and became sought-after as a singing pedagogue. He worked for a long time in Berlin, later in Lübeck.
Robert Titze earned his name particularly because of the many beautiful recordings that he left. Among them can be found also opera recordings. Thus he sings Marullo in Rigoletto on HMV- Electrola, on Nixa in a complete recording of George Frideric Handel's Rodelinda, on Opera in scenes from Tannhäuser. Additional recordings on MMS, Vox, Lyrichord, Telefunken, Ducretet-Thompson (Bach Cantatas), Urania, Cascade (Carmina Burana by C. Orff), Period and Opera (solo in Deutschen Requiem by Johannes Brahms, live recording of a performance of the work in Stuttgart, 1956). Nearly all these recordings originate nearly the 1950's. |
