Agnieszka Tomaszewska (Soprano)

Born: Poland

The Polish soprano, Agnieszka Tomaszewska, graduated in 2004 with distinction from the Gdańsk Music Academy, Vocal and Acting Faculty (Poland) in vocal class under Dr Aleksandra Kucharska-Szefler. Studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, under the direction of Prof. Helena Łazarska who she is still working with. She graduated The International Opera Studio of the Hamburg State Opera. She participated in numerous mastering courses by Thomas Hampson, Régine Crespin, Barbara Bonney, Katia Ricciarelli. She was awared the Award of the Mayor of the City of Gdańsk for Young Artists. She granted a scholarship from the Minister of Culture. Laureate of competition under Internationale Sommerakademie der Universität Mozarteum. She won the 1st Prize in an International Competition of Vocal Art Memorial of Ada Sari and some Special Awards (among others Radio Classic).

During the artistic season 2005-2006, 2006-2007 Agnieszka Tomaszewska performed at Hamburgische Staatsoper (Germany). On the opera stage she performed, among others, as Serpina (La serva Padrona), Cleopatra (Giulio Cesare), Adina and Gianetta (L’elisir d’amore), Arminda (La finta giardiniera), Ilia (Idomeneo), Papagena (Die Zauberflöte), Taumännchen (Hänsel und Gretel).

Her repertooire comprises numerous oratorios and sacred vocal music, such as: Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244), Johannes-Passion (BWV 245), Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248), h-Moll-Messe (BWV 232) by J.S. Bach; Requiem, Krönungsmesse, Exsultate, jubilate by W.A. Mozart; Messiah by George Frideric Handel; Ein deutsches Requiem by Johannes Brahms. She participated in pre-performances of Jan A.P. Kaczmarek's Oratorio 1956 and Cantata for Freedom on the 25th Anniversary of Solidarity movement in Poland and Oratorio of Gdańsk by Marek Kuczyński on the 60th Anniversary of Radio Gdańsk. She also sang the main role in the world premiere staging of Szymanowski’s operetta Lottery for husbands. She went on a tour in Israel with Zubin Mehta and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. During the Salzburger Festspiele she sang Boccherini’s Stabat Mater with the Paul Roczek Quintet. She performed in Royce Hall in Hollywood together with Leszek Możdżer in a concert dedicated to music, celebrating the Oscar Award for Jan A. P. Kaczmarek.

Agnieszka Tomaszewska appeared with such conductors as: Alfred Eschwé, Wolfgang Helbich, Michał Nestorowicz, Janusz Przybylski, Wojciech Rajski, Peter Schreier, Stefan Soltesz, Simone Young; with ensembles: Cremerata Baltica, Musica Antiqua Köln, Philharmoniker Hamburg, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Kammersinfonie Bremen, with orchestras- Baltic Philharmonic, Baltic Opera, Krakow Opera, Izmir Philharmonic, Poznań Philharmonic, with Polish Chamber Philharmonic in Sopot, Cappellą Gedanensis in Poland, Germany, Sweden, Spain, Austria, France, Lithuania, Latvia, Turkey, Israel and United States.

Agnieszka Tomaszewska recorded for the radio and television TVP, ORF. She released solo records I sing for the children and Stabat Mater - Luigi Boccherini, which was nominated for Fryderyk Awards 2008.
