The American bass-baritone, Costas Tsourakis, obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in Voice and Opera with Minor in Economics from State University Of New York-Purchase College (2005-2009); Master of Music degree in Voice and Opera from Manhattan School of Music (2009-2011); and his Master of Education degree in Music Education from Teachers College of Columbia University (2011-2014).

Costas Tsourakis has been a freelance opera singer since June 2005. Opera credits include Manon Lescaut (Geronte), Georges Bizet's Carmen (Zuniga), La Battaglia di Legnano (Podesta), Die Fledermaus (Frosch), all with Sarasota Opera; La Cenerentola (Don Magnifico) in Greece for the Festival of the Aegean; Gianni Schicchi (title role) at the Trentino Music Festival in Italy; Don Carlo (Filippo II) with Vocal Productions NYC; G. Bizet's Carmen (Zuniga), Die Fledermaus (Falke) both with NY Opera Exchange; La Bohème (Colline), W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze Di Figaro (Don Bartolo), W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte (Sarastro), Gianni Schicchi (Betto) all with Opera on the Avalon in St. John’s, Newfoundland; W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni (Leporello) at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Banff, Alberta; Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor (Falstaff) in Weimar, Germany; and W.A. Mozart's Cosi Fan Tutte (Don Alfonso), Gianni Schicchi (Simone) and Amahl And The Night Visitors (Balthazaar) with Purchase Opera. He has performed at Sarasota Opera in Florida since January 2013 (Apprentice Artist: 2013-2014; Studio Artist: since January 2015; Principal Artist: since January 2018).
Musical theatre credits include Jud in Oklahoma!, Big Jule in Guys and Dolls and a production of Weill’s Knickerbocker Holiday recorded at Alice Tully Hall and released by Albany Records. Solo concert credits include L.v. Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Finzi’s In Terra Pax, Haydn’s Nelsonmesse, Josef Rheinberger’s Star Of Bethlehem, Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on Christmas Carols and George Frideric Handel’s Messiah. He has performed at the Verbier Music Festival in Verbier, Switzerland, and concerts in Tel Aviv, Haifa and Jerusalem with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.
In addition to his passion for performing, Costas Tsourakis is a dedicated music educator who regularly teaches young musicians and has beebn the Associate Music Director at the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity (since November 2012). He has also been President of Frank Sinatra School Of The Arts Alumni Association (since September 2005); and Governing Committee/Education Committee at MasterVoices (since September 2008). He currently lives in New York City. |
