The Turkish baritone, Gökhan Nazif Varkan, graduated from the Electronics Department of İzmir Çınarlı Endüstri Meslek Lisesi in 1986. In the same year, he entered the Opera Department İzmir Devlet Konstervatuvarı and became a Professor. He became a student of Sevda Aydan. In 1992, he passed the exam of the Mersin Devlet Opera ve Balesi and started working as a choir artist.
From 1992 to 2000, Gökhan Varkan worked as both a chorister and a soloist artist. In 2000, he was appointed from the choir staff to the soloist artist staff. He was appointed to the Mersin Devlet Opera ve Balesi staff until 2008. He worked as a soloist artist in the Ballet. In 2008, he was appointed to the İzmir Devlet Opera ve Bales. He currently continues to work as a baritone soloist artist in the İzmir Devlet Opera ve Balesi. Some of the works he performed: Silvio in I Pagliacci; Conte di Luna in Il Trovatore; Belcore in L'elisir d'amore; Zurga in Georges Bizet's Les pêcheurs de perles; Enrico in Lucia Di Lammermoor; Ford in Falstaff; Prosdocimo (a poet) in Il turco in Italia; Massetto in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni; Sharpless in Madama Butterfly; The Duke in Charles Gounod's Roméo et Juliette; Yavuz Sultan Selim in Muhteşem Süleyman; Şevket Kanli Nigar in Luxury Life; Imeneo in George Frideric Handel's İmeneo; Harlequin in Ariadne Auf Naxos; Mandarin in Turandot; Montano in Otello; Marcello in La bohème; Baritone Solo in Blue Dot. |
