The Spanish-born mezzo-soprano, Lidia [Lydia] Vinyes Curtis, has roots in many European countries and experienced a broad musical education with a complete study of the violin at the two Barcelona Conservatoires of music and a degree in Ancient Music and Baroque Violin at the Conservatoire Nationale de Région de Toulouse (France). Both studies with best mark. She gained her vocal training in Barcelona with her principal teacher Maestro Jorge Sirena, continued in Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (Switzerland) and in master classes with Richard Levitt, David Mason and Rosa Domínguez. She won the Bachakademie Stuttgart 2013 (Bachwoche Stuttgart) being selected by conductor Helmuth Rilling and alto Ingeborg Danz to sing J.S. Bach’s Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) in a Germany and Chile tournee, receiving best critics about her singing.
Lidia Vinyes Curtis has gained experience in different fields of music such as Symphonical Orchestra, Opera, Theatre, Sacred Music and contemporary Ballet. In January 2005 she was selected by the Opera Studio in Farandula Theater (Barcelona-Sabadell) performing Die Zauberflöte in the role of Dritter Knabe and Le Nozze di Figaro in the role of Cherubino. Furthermore, in 2008 she was selected by Gran Teatre del Liceu to perform Cenerentola during School Opera sessions. From 2008 till 2009 she was the official alto soloist in the professional vocal octet Nova Lux Ensemble specialized in Spanish rennaissance music and also polyphony. After meeting Richard Levitt and David Mason in summer 2008, she performed the Sorceress from Dido and Aeneas and also arias by George Frideric Handel during the concerts in Salamanca University Auditorium. David Mason selected her to sing in three seasons, 2009, 2010 and 2011, a Henry Purcell recital, a Monteverdi and a G.F. Handel recital during the International Santander Festival.
In October 2009 and June 2010 in Portugal, Lidia Vinyes Curtis sang in several Baroque Music Festivals on tour as, Loulé Early Music Festival, Castelo Branco Festival and Alcobaça Music Festival among others, the leading role of Medoro during the premiere of Sousa Carvalho’s opera l’Angelica, conducted and edited by Pedro Castro. In September 2010 during Le Festival d’Ambronay, she sang the role La Fama in the opera La Guerra de los gigantes by Sebastián Durón, conducted by Gabriel Garrido with the Ensemble Elyma. In February 2010 and August 2011, with conductor Martin Gester she sang as a soloist in a huge Nicola Porpora project with Le Parlement de Musique in Strasbourg (France) and in the Festival Sinfonia en Périgord, being recorded by Radio France Musique and receiving the best critics and commentaries. During the same Festival and in the 2012 edition, she sings the Stabat Mater by Alessandro Scarlatti as soloist.
Conductor Kay Johannsen invites Lidia Vinyes Curtis regularly as soloist to sing during season 2011-2012, 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 J.S. Bach Oratorio music together with Bach Vokal Ensemble. With the ensemble Le tendre amour in 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 seasons she sings the role of La Tierra in the Baroque spanish opera Los Elementos composed by Antonio de Literes during Trigonale Alte Musik Festival in Austria and other European Festivals. Conductor and viola da gamba player Philippe Pierlot invites her to sing M.A. Charpentier sacred music together with Céline Scheen and the Ricercar Consort. Different critics are very enthousiastic about her performance. She is regularly invited by conductor Jordi Savall to sing in his ensemble La Capella Reial de Catalunya. She sings the Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) by J.S. Bach as soloist in September 2012 together with the Catalan Baroque Orchestra in Elne (France). After listening to her, conductor Konrad Junghänel recommends her to the Cologne opera House to sing C. Monteverdi, G.F. Handel and W.A. Mozart repertoire. Josep Pons invites her to sing the role of Pirene in the Manuel de Falla’s stage Cantata La Atlántida during 2013-2014 season with Orquesta Nacional de España, in Madrid. Conductor Helmuth Rilling wants her to sing Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) and Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) by J.S. Bach during 2014, in Chile (Teatro del Lago) and Russia (Moscow Tchaikovsky Concert Hall).
