Stefan Weiler (Choral Conductor) |
Born: 1960 - Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany |
The German choral conductor and bass singer, Stefan Weiler, studied Catholic church music in Mainz, Saarbrücken and Freiburg and concluded his studies in Freiburg with the A-exam. Among his teachers of choral and orchestral conducting were the professors W. Wehnert, W. Shepherd and Hans-Michael Beuerle. In addition, Stefan Weiler was a student of professor Helmuth Rilling, and perfected his skills through-master classes and seminars with John Eliot Gardiner and Uwe Gronostay.
The history of the Mainzer Figuralchor is closely linked to the biography of its founder Stefan Weiler. Since 1979, he directs the ensemble on one hand, and help the members developing their individual musical spiriton the other, which makes him and the choir always finding new ways. In 1983 he initiated an ongoing co-operation of the Mainzer Figuralchor with the orchestra Mainzer Camerata Musicale.
Since 1985 Stefan Weiler teaches choral conducting at the Bischöflichen Kirchenmusikalischen Institut in Speyer. In 1995-1996, he received a teaching contract for conducting and choral conducting at the State Academy of Music of Saarland in Saarbrücken. For many years, he has been musical director of the Easter session of the Castle Rothenfels.
Stefan Weiler is a member of the Gächinger Kantorei Stuttgart and works regularly since 1990 at the International Bachakademie Stuttgart as assistant to Helmuth Rilling with many European ensembles (Gächinger Kantorei Stuttgart and Bach-Collegium Stuttgart, Athens Radio Choir and orchestra, Madrid Radio Choir, Bach Academy of Krakow, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra). He is also in Stuttgart in the summer academy, the European Music Festival and as a teacher and choir director of the annual Bach weeks. In November 2001 he was appointed as director of the Bachakademie Krasnoyarsk, Siberia. In December 2001 he made his debut as a guest conductor of the Münchener Bach-Chor. In the autumn of 2003, he opened the Bach Academy in Krasnoyarsk, for the first with the participation of the Mainzer Figuralchor. |
