The American bass-baritone singer, guitarist, pianist and composer, Kohl A. Weisman, obtained his Bachlor of Arts degrre in East Asian Languages and Literatures, Chinese Language and Literature from Yale College (August 2015-2019). While there, he also took opportunities to study voice at Yale School of Music and perform with Yale Opera and the Yale Baroque Opera Project.
Starting out as a theater kid, Kohl Weisman has since become an active performer in many genres including opera, jazz, rock, and Brazilian music. Since returning to Grand Rapids in 2019, he has been a featured soloist with local groups including Opera Grand Rapids, West Michigan Opera Project, VoxGR, Fountain Street Oratorio Choir, and Grand Rapids Symphony. He Bass Section Leader/Soloist at Fountain Street Church in Grand Rapids (since August 2023). He can also be seen at restaurants and patios around West Michigan performing pop, jazz, and samba arrangements for voice and guitar/piano. Outside of performing, he is a composer of vocal, guitar and piano music, electronic works, and video game soundtracks - his favorite genre of them all. He was Narrative Designer/Composer at Pink Moon Studios (November 2021-October 2024); and is Music Composer at City of Heroes: Homecoming (since April 2022).
Kohl Weisman with a love for teaching went back to high school when he started as an instructor and program lead for Williams Syndrome Association (WSA) music camps in Oscoda (since July 2014). In addition to his continued work with the WSA, he has over five years of experience teaching private lessons for students of all ages and learning styles (Music Teacher/Voice Coach at Academy of Music in Grand Rapids: since October 2020). With a passion for eclecticism, he encourages his students to pair their vocal and instrument practice with the exploration of musical styles, with an emphasis on arranging, improvising, and learning by ear. He currently lives in Jenison, Michigan. |
