The Dutch tenor singer and language lecturer, Gijsbert P. Westland, obtained his Master of Arts degree in Theoretical Linguistics & Cognition from Leiden University (2012-2014); his Professional Teaching Certificate, Education from Rotterdam University (2014-2015); and his Basic Qualification Examination (BKE) from Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences (December 2023-February 2024). He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Classical Music: Voice from ArtEZ Conservatorium (September 2020-Jun 2024), with Focus on Solo singing in Oratorio repertoire and Lied and on Ensemble singing. Favorite composers: J.S. Bach, Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms, Francis Poulenc & Benjamin Britten.
Gijsbert Westland worked as a Teacher of Dutch Language Acquisition with the Department of Germanic Languages at the University of Florida for two semesters (2010-2011). Through AdhocDocent, he worked as an interim teacher of Enflish at a High School in Gorinchem, The Netherlands. He was responsible for teaching and testing two groups of VMBO-sophomores (July 2011-February 2012). At at Babel, Utrecht, he taught Dutch to groups of international higher educated learners (September 2011-August 2013). Additionally, he taught English in one-to-one settings. The groups he taught consisted of a mix of students from all over the world with an exceptional occasion of two groups with Omani students only. He was Chairman of Chamber choir Cantiago in Utrecht (June 2012-September 2015). At Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, he has been Researcher (December 2016-June 2018); Lecturer of English (since August 2013).
As a tenor singer, Gijsbert Westland is a member of Cappella Amsterdam (Director: Daniel Reuss) and also performs as a soloist in concerts of sacred music |
