The English soprano, chemical engineer and web designer, Catherine White (Catherine Lee), studied at Colchester County High School for Girls (A Levels, AAAA - 2005). She began singing in her local choral societies and church choir She obtained her Chemical Engineering, BA (Hons) degree in 2008, and her Chemical Engineering, MEng (Hons) degree in 2009, both from University of Cambridge. Whilst studying at the University of Cambridge (2005-2009), she dedicated much of her free time to singing with the chapel choirs of Selwyn and Trinity colleges.
Catherine White is a prolific choir member and small ensemble singer, her long-term choirs including that of Trinity College Choir of Cambridge, and the chamber choir Vox Cantab. Other groups are short-term, formed for the purpose of particular events, and then disbanded until the next project. She is first and foremost a classical choral singer, enjoying working with other singers or instrumentalists to bring music to life. She has a wide repertoire of music and, as part of her Cambridge choir training, can master a new piece in a matter of minutes.
Last year was exciting for Catherine White, with solo work including Maurice Duruflé's Requiem with Vox Cantab under Jonathan Willcocks, Haydn's Nelson Mass with the Stour Choral Society under Duncan Archard, W.A. Mozart's Great Mass in C minor with Haslingfield Choral Society for Graham Walker and Monteverdi's Vespers with Ishirini and Jeremy Rouse. Her choral highlights included travelling to Norway to perform Tavener's Veil of the Temple with the Holst Singers (Director: Stephen Layton), singing Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina in a joint concert with the King's Singers, and performing Tallis' Spem in Alium with The Cardinall's Musick, as well as recording her first close harmony CD with the Trinity College Choir of Cambridge. Her future plans, in addition to various choral evensongs and other sung chapel services, include bringing a recital of Tudor music to Peterborough Cathedral (June 16) and later a Centenary Concert showcasing the poet Edward Thomas.
Catherine White has worked as Principal Consultant at Enval Consulting since February 2014; Visiting Researcher at University of Cambridge Department of Chemical Engineering since March 2014; Technical Development Manager at Enval Ltd since February 2015. She is a chemical engineer and has been involved with Enval throughout the entire initial commercialisation process. She joined when the laminate recycling technology was a small batch pilot-scale process and assisted in the scale-up as R&D Engineer to complete commissioning of the commercial-size recycling plant. She is responsible for chemical and engineering calculations, mechanical design, and data analysis because of her chemical engineering background and thorough process knowledge. As Principal Consultant in the advisory arm of the company, she has been responsible for delivering major sustainability studies for global brands thanks to her strong research and communication skills. She uses her environmental impact knowledge to make evidence-based decisions for products, packaging, disposal routes and more. |
