The Austrian baritone, Stefan Zenkl, began his studies under Leopold Spitzer at the Vienna Music University, and graduated in 2004 from the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (Conservatory of Music in Basel) under Kurt Widmer with a diploma in Solo voice performance and teaching. He is an awardee of the University Mozarteum, Salzburg and was a semi-finalist in the ARD Competition, Munich.
With his "glossy, melting Baritone and energetic stage persona", Stefan Zenkl is becoming a wide-ranged and sought after lyric-baritone. Beginning with the 2004-2005 season he was engaged by the Zürich Opera as part of the prestigious International Opera Studio. Immediately following his time in Zürich the young baritone joined the ensemble of the Hannover State Opera (2006-2010) where he debuted a pivotal cross section of repertoire such as Papageno in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Dandini in La Cenerentola, Ping in Turandot and the title role in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze de Figaro. Starting with the 2011-2012 season, as member of the Kassel State Opera, he added to his repertoire acclaimed debuts in new productions as Guglielmo in W.A. Mozart's Così fan tutte and Wolfram in Tannhaeuser. Among others, he also performed Marcello in La Bohème Peter Besenbinder in Engelbert Humperdinck's Häensel & Gretel and Graf Danilo in Lustige Witwe in this time.
As a freelance artist, Stefan Zenkl has also enjoyed guest appearances at the State Theatre Wiesbaden, the Schloßtheater Schönbrunn as well as the Opera Houses in Gera, Magdeburg and the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg. In summer 2010, he performed Papageno in Die Zauberfloete at the renowned Opernfestspielen St. Margarethen in Austria. Most recently, he was invited to portray the role of Sivlio in I Pagliacci with the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker and Opernfestspiele Heidenheim.
Last season, Stefan Zenkl returned to Austria and joined the Opera house in Klagenfurt to perform some of his signature roles eg. Papagaeno in Die Zauberflöte , Silvio in Pagliacci and Dr. Falke in Die Fledermaus. |
