The German bass, George Zeppenfeld, began his singing studies during his studies for teaching music and German at the Musikhochschule Detmold. Since 1996 he studied singing with Professor Hans Sotin at the Hochschule für Musik Köln, where he got his diploma in opera and concert singing with excellence.
After first stage engagements at the urban stages cathedrals and the opera house of Bonn, he was engaged at the Saxonian State Opera of Dresden (Semperoper), and since August 2001 he has been a permanent ensemble member. Appearances led him to the Niedersächsische Staatstheater Hannover, the Nationaltheater Mannheim, as well as the Theater der Schweizer Bundeshauptstadt Bern.
In the center of his opera activity are the respectable bass roles, such as Sarastro in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Komtur in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni, Eremit in Der Freischütz by C.M. von Weber, Riese Fasolt in Das Rheingold by R. Wagner, Padre Guardiano in G. Verdi’s La. Forza del Destino or Pimen in M. Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov. In addition, bass parts as the W.A. Mozart’s Figaro, Masetto and Don Alfonso are represented in his repertoire.
Apart from his stage commitment he dedicates himself intensively to the concert singing. Particularly the works J.S. Bach, George Frideric Handel and J. Haydn, up to the great late-romantic oratorios, find in him an engaged and increasing also internationally looked-after interpreter. |
