The Pittsburgh Music Alliance (PMA) represents a collaborative effort by Bach Choir of Pittsburgh, Chatham Baroque, Pittsburgh Camerata, Pittsburgh Chamber Music Society, and Renaissance and Baroque. PMA focuses on building audiences for each of these organizations through cooperative initiatives. |

The Pittsburgh Music Alliance celebrated one of music’s greatest composers, J.S. Bach, with a one-day music festival held on May 10, 2014 at Calvary Episcopal Church in Shadyside. The Pittsburgh Music Alliance consists of five local organizations with established histories: Bach Choir of Pittsburgh, Chatham Baroque, Pittsburgh Camerata, Pittsburgh Chamber Music Society, and Renaissance & Baroque. This collaborative effort is uniquely able to represent the breadth of J.S. Bach’s works.
The festival will span 12 hours, from 10:00AM to 10:00 PM. Works of Bach to be performed include:
* the famed Chaconne for violin, performed by Andrew Fouts of Chatham Baroque
* intimate vocal works including the motets Singe dem Herrn (BWV 225), and Der Geist Hilft (BWV 226), performed by Bach Choir, and Jesu, Meine Freude (BWV 227), and Der Gerechte Kommt (BWV 229), performed by Pittsburgh Camerata
* the concertos for violin in A minor, E major and D minor as well as the concerto for violin and oboe, performed by violinists Charles and Rachel Stegeman, with oboist Robin Driscoll
* the quadruple and triple harpsichord concertos, with soloists representing multiple PMA organizations
* The event concluded with the grand Magnificat (BWV 243)” performed by all five organizations joining together for this fitting finale.
The festival was free and open to the public, with goodwill donations accepted at the door. The Festival of Bach was made possible through the generous support of the Fine Foundation, an anonymous donor, and individual donors. |
