The German Baroque composer, Johann Balthasar Reimann, was born the son of a potter in Breslau. He studied with the Kantors Conrad Gürtler, Samuel Sturm and Jacob Willisch in Breslau. After thorough training of his voice, he was principal choral player at the Neustadt (Kirche) zu Breslau; then at Marien-Magdalenen-Kirche in Breslau; from 1726 sub-organist/sub-Kantor at the latter church; and since about 1729/1730 organist at Gnadenkirche in Hirschberg. He published in 1747 in Hirschberg a chorale book under the title: Sammlung alter und neuer Melodien evangelischer Lieder. Of the 362 melodies in the collection he composed himself 118. According to Döring's statement of 1865, these are still sung in part in Silesia.
In his autobiography contained in Johann Mattheson's Ehren-Pforte, Johann Balthasar Reimann reported on a trip to Leipzig (dated 1735/1736) and listening to J.S. Bach's music. Lessons with J.S. Bach, as implied by Löffler, are not explicitly mentioned there or otherwise.
