Viviana Azar (Choral Conductor)

Born: Buenos Aires, Argentina

The Argentinean choral conductor, Viviana Azar, was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Her musical life began at a young age but, before finally choosing the music, she studied Mathematics at the University of Buenos Aires. At the age of 20, she left her native country and settled in Tel Aviv, Israel, where she completed her musical education. She stufied Choir Direction at hge Rubin Music Acamy of Tel Aviv University and obtained her Bachelor of Music degree Cum Laude.

Viviana Azar's musical career has led her to meet great teachers in the most and Eric Ericson, piano with Susana Bonora, singing with Evelyne Razimowsky and Jacqueline Bonnardot, orchestral conducting with Pierre Cao and opera staging with Jean-Pierre Ponnelle or Daniel Barenboim. She was also introduced to the analysis and musical composition with, among others, Graciela Tarchini and Ami Ma'ayani.

Arriving in France in 1989, Viviana Azar became the Artistic Director of the Ensemble Vocal Magadis and Chœur de Chambre Mélisma de l'ATSCAF Paris and the Cantoria de Blois which she she directed until 2000. She currently holds the Diplôme d'Etat (State Diploma) in the direction of vocal ensembles and conducts various training courses as a guest conductor.

With her two choirs, composed of amateur singers, Viviana Azar has undertaken a lengthy educational and musical action. Indeed, the singers can, through an extensive training internship program and various activities, deepen their knowledge in the history of music, vocal technique and musical analysis. Through this work, they have access to the great choral repertoire to offer diverse audiences in a spirit of sharing and continuous exchange. Her involvement in this project and in the project "Chœur à Cœur" is part of her own ideal of music. This art, which is one of the most authentic ways to express the beauty and depth of the human soul, for her is an essential element in building a more just society and a better world.
