The English choral conductor, organist and composer, Peter Barley, was educated as a chorister at New College, Oxford and then won a music scholarship to Winchester College. He took a music degree at Cambridge where he was an organ scholar at King's College, accompanying the renowned King's College Choir Cambridge in many concerts, broadcasts, recordings and tours (to Australasia and Italy), in addition to the daily services. He then studied at the Royal Academy of Music, concurrently obtaining his Master of Music degree with distinction from London University.
Peter Barley was Organist and Director of Music at St Marylebone Church, London, from 1991 to 2001 (11 years). He combined this with the role of Director of the Edington Festival of Music within the Liturgy. Whilst in London, he worked as accompanist with a number of leading choirs including the Corydon Singers, Canticum and the London Concert Choir. Peter is a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists and was made an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music, London in 2001.
From January 2002 to 2010 (8 years), Peter Barley worked in Dublin as Organist and Master of the Choristers at St Patrick Cathedral. Since November 2010, he is Organist at St Mary's Cathedral, Limerick. He was also Director of the Dublin Chamber Choir and he teaches organ at St Columba's College, Rathfarnham. |
