The Argentinean soprano, Mónica Capra, graduated from the Conservatorio Nacional de Música “Carlos López Buchardo”. She specialised in choral conducting, chamber music and Lieder interpretation, and vocal technique with Susana Naijdich, Malvina Parnas and Renata Parussel. She also studied with Dante Ranieri, Catalina Hadis and Guillermo Opitz.
Mónica Capra has performed as a soloist with the major orchestras of her country, including:
La Filarmónica de Buenos Aires, Sinfónica Nacional, Estable del Teatro Colón, the Cámara Mayo, and the symphony orchestras of Córdoba, Rosario, Tucumán, Mendoza, Salta, and Bahía Blanca, among others.
Her repertoire includes works of composers such as W.A. Mozart, J.S. Bach, C. Debussy, Georg Frideric Handel, J. Haydn, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, Gabriel Fauré, and others. In her long career, Mónica Capra has sung choral symphonic works, of which should be mentioned Stabat Mater of G.B. Pergolesi and Boccherini, Johannes Brahms’ Requiem, Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria, Coronation Mass, Requiem and Mass in C Minor by W.A. Mozart Of J.S. Bach’s works she sang Johannes-Passion (BWV 245), and numerous cantatas: in particular in the cycles of the Academia Bach de Buenos Aires, under the direction of Mario Videla. Together with those she recorded for Argentina Televisora Color (ATC-Canal 7) Oster-Oratorium (BWV 249) and Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248) in their integral versions and participated in the 20th anniversary concert of the Academia Bach de Buenos Aires and the premiere of Juditha Triumphs. She also performed in concerts at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, the latter with the Camerata Bariloche.
As a soloist Mónica Capra appeared in the show Luna Park in realization by Julio Bocca, Lito Vitale and Estudio Coral de Buenos Aires. Since 1990 she participates regularly in productions of the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, where she has appeared, among others, in the following operas: La Rondine Iolanta, Lulú, Ermione, Jenufa, Ifigenia en Tauride, The Queen of Spades, Marriage of Figaro, Suor Angelica, La Ciudad Ausente, Don Pasquale, Dido and Aeneas, Las Indias Galantes, Don Carlo, Elisabetta Regina d’Inghilterra, La Zapatera Prodigiosa. She was specially invited to participate in the reopening of the Opera House in Manaus (Brazil) with the opera The Barber of Seville in the role of Rossiena.
At the Teatro Argentino de La Plata Mónica Capra starred in the opera The Magic Flute by Mozart and Arca de Noé, also participated in Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) and Dvorak’s Requiem, La Demoiselle Elleu by C. Debussy, and Carmina Burana by Carl Orff, which were performed in Rosario, Tucumán, Salta and Neuquen. She was recently invited to perform in Bogota (Colombia) by the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Colombia, and in Costa Rica she appeared in the zarzuela Luisa Fernanda.
In 2005 Mónica Capra sang J. Brahms’ Requiem at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires with the Orquesta Filarmónica de Buenos Aires, and the Coro Orfeón under the direction of Michel Corboz. During 2009, she prepared and performed the music of Argentina cycles Mujeres Argentinas by Ariel Ramirez and Felix Luna, and the Flores Argentinas by Carlos Guastavino with Leo Bernstein, with whom she recorded the two cycles. |
