T. Herbert Dimmock (Conductor, Organ)

Born: January 26, 1952 - Staunton, Virginia, USA

The American conductor and organist, T. Herbert Dimmock, obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Music from Davidson College (1970-1974); and his Master odf Music degree in Organ/Conducting from Peabody Conservatory (1974-1976). He has pursued further study with Greg Smith, Roger Wagner, Robert Shaw, and Helmuth Rilling.

T. Herbert Dimmock is is one of the foremost Baroque experts in the country. He was Musical Director of The Handel Choir of Baltimore for 25 years (1997-2002). Under his leadership, the choir has experienced dramatic artistic growth, presenting outstanding performances of the masterpieces of the choral repertoire throughout the Baltimore region. He is now Director Emeritus of The Handel Choir of Baltimore. He was Music Director of First English Lutheran Church in Baltimore for the over 17 years, where he developed one of the finest choral music programs in the area. He was Music Director of the Bach Concert Series at this church. He was also the Conductor/Artistic Director of the 75-voice Maryland Jewish Choral Society, Music Director of the 85-voice Harford Choral Society, President and Artistic Director of the 26 voice Herb Dimmock Singers, and Choir Director at Chizuk Amuno Congregation in Pikesville, Maryland (since August 1991); High Holiday Choir Director at Baltimore Hebrew Congregation (since 2006); Music Director of St. Stephen's Episcopal Cathedral in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania (September 2012-Fall 2018).

In addition to his work as a conductor, T. Herbert. Dimmock is an accomplished who has been heard in recital at many of the world’s most prestigious sites, including: Westminster Abbey, Winchester Cathedral, the National Cathedral and the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City. His conducting credits are equally noteworthy and include many major ensembles in the USA: the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the International Bach Academy Orchestra, Gächinger Kantorei Stuttgart, Germany, and the Handel Festival Orchestra. In addition to all the L.v. Beethoven's Symphonies, major Romantic requiems, Venetian polychoral music, and many of the W.A. Mozart and Haydn orchestral works, his conducting credits include nearly all the oratorios and anthems of George Frideric Handel, all the major J.S. Bach's works, and 170 J.S. Bach Cantatas. He has conducted the music of J.S. Bach in the USA, Germany, Canada, and England, working with many of the world’s most accomplished singers and instrumentalists.

T. Herbert. Dimmock has served at the on the faculties at Johns Hopkins University, College of Notre Dame and Harford Community College. Honors include commendations from the State of Maryland, a “Baltimore’s Best” award, commendations from the Senate of the State of Maryland as well as the governor, serving on task forces in the arts for the Governor of Maryland and the Pew Trust in Philadelphia.

T. Herbert. Dimmock has recorded several CD's, including: "Holy Minimalism", "Christmas with the Handel Choir", "Face to Face", "Music for a Great Space".

T. Herbert. Dimmock lives in Hummelstown, Pennsylvania, with his wife, Dr. Rebecca Bascom and their two children, Anne and Thomas.
