Matthias Ebner (Baritone)

Born: 1977 - Bludenz, Vorarlberg, Austria

The Austrian baritone, Matthias A. Ebner, received his first musical lessons at the music Musikhauptschule Thüringen in the subjects flute, ensemble playing and choral singing and pursued training at the Musikgymnasium in Feldkirch. Hae subsequently studied instrumental and vocal pedagogy, majoring in flute with Professor Eva Amsler and specialisation singing with Professor Ingeborg Dobozy at Landerskonservatorium Feldkirch, where he graduated with honors. The interest in Baroque music led him to the Netherlands. At the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, he studied flute with Kate Clark and graduated with the postgraduate degree. In 2003, he studied first at Sasja Hunnego and later with Meinard Kraak solo singing in The Hague and obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in 2007. The Erasmus exchange program enabled him to study with Professor Franz Lukasovsky in the Soloists Department of the Musikuniversität Wien. From 2007 to 2010 he studied the concert field with Jill Feldman and Scot Weir at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste. He received further musical impulses by attending master-classes with Kurt Widmer, Michael Chance, Mariette Nollen, Gerd Türk, as well as in the Lied class of Daniel Fueter and Hans Adolfsen. Currently, he is vocally supervised by the baritone Marcus Niedermeyr.

Matthias Ebner has a broad repertoire in the areas of Lieder and oratorio, from the early Renaissance to the present day. He works with various pianists Katia Braunschweiler, Edward Rushton and Bernhard Ruchti. On the opera and operetta stage he has sung, among others, as Grace and Huntsman in John Blow's Venus and Adonis, Pinellino in G. Puccini's Gianni Schicci, Prince in J. Offenbach's The Bandits. He has sung under the baton of renowned conductors such as Bernard Haitink, Heinz Holliger, Ton Koopman, Charles Dutoit, Roger Norrington and David Zinman.

In addition to his appearances as a soloist, was many years singer in the Schweizer Kammerchor and the Basler Madrigalisten under the direction of Fritz Näf. Since the 2011-2012 season, he is in the Kernchor Zürcher Sing-Akademie under the direction of Timothy Brown. He sings regularly in the Chor der J.S. Bach-Stiftung St. Gallen (formerly: Vokalensemble der Schola Seconda Pratica) under the direction of Rudolf Lutz.
