The Italian organist and harpsichordist, Umberto Forni, got his organ diploma in 1976 with full marks studying with Stefano Innocenti. Right after he was invited to teach in the Conservatory of Ferrara, so he left his medical studies at the University of Bologna and dedicating full time to the study of music. Interested on the 16th and 17th centuries repertoire improved his knowledge in several stages. In 1985 he got his diploma “cum laude” in harpsichord with Sergio Vartolo in Ferrara.
As a soloist, Umberto Forni has played almost in all Europe and in Japan, taking part for many years in succession in international organ festivals like Roma, Lisboa, Zaragoza, Avignon, Maastricht etc; he has recorded for RAI (terzo programma), Radio France - France Music, Radio Suisse Romande. Playing continuo, his discography includes al least 20 recordings for Bongiovanni, Tactus, Nuova Era, Stradivarius and Naxos.
At present Umberto Forni is organist at the historical organ of the church of Santa Maria in Organo, in Verona; he is a Professor of Organ and Organ Composition at the Conservatorium of the same town and he is charged by the Superintendance for the Environmental and Architectural Properties with the protection of the artistical organs in Veneto. |
