The German tenor, Stephan Gähler, was from 1985 to 1995 member of the Dresdner Kapellknaben at the local Katholischen Hofkirche in Dresden. Although he began studies of transport science and geography, he never abandoned his passion for singing. From 2003, he graduated from private singing studies with Professor Trappe-Wiel in Dresden.
Stephan Gähler sings regularly in internationally renowned ensembles as the Collegium Vocale Gent, RIAS-Kammerchor Berlin, Balthasar-Neumann-Chor Freiburg or Vocalconsort Berlin, under conductors such as Philippe Herreweghe, Marcus Creed, Daniel Reuss, Hans-Christoph Rademann, Thomas Hengelbrock and Peter Dijkstra.
A main focus of his work is the singing in the singly occupied solo ensemble with the focus on the literature of the 16th to 18th centuries. This includes especially the cooperation with the ensemble Cappella Sagittariana Dresden, Capella de la Torre, Ensemble Polyharmonique Berlin, Cappella Augustana Bologna, Musica Fiata Köln, or in versatile acting Athesinus Consort Berlin.
As a soloist, Stephan Gähler is mainly engaged in early music, his repertoire includes the concerto literature of the Renaissance through the Baroque to early Classical period. The cantatas and the Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248) of J.S. Bach and George Frideric Handel's Messiah should be mentioned here in the first place. Regular radio and CD productions complete his work, and document this. |
