Martin Galling (Harpsichord, Piano)

Born: 1935 - Halle (Saale), Saxony-Anhalt, Germany

The German pianist, harpsichordist and chamber musician, Martin Galling, began taking lessons on the cello at the age of 7, but when he reached 10 showed greater interest in the piano. In 1945 he began his piano studies udied piano lessons in 1945 at the Peter Cornelius-Konservatorium in Mainz with Louise Wandel. He contnued his studies at the University of Mainz with Günter Raphael (counterpoint) and Günter Kehr (chamber music and musicology). In 1956 he attended the master-class of Hans Leygraf.

Following his studies, Marting Galling gave numerous concerts in Germany and toured Western Europe, the USA, Israel and Japan. During his career he has been involved in recordings of the most important composers of the Classical and Romantic periods. Galling was a soloist in numerous tours with the Stuttgarter Kammerorchester under Karl Münchinger and worked a lot with Helmuth Rilling. Among his recordings should be mentioned J.S. Bach's complete solo keyboard works, played on harpsichord (Vox).

From 1970 to 2000, Martin Galling was Professor of chamber music at Musikhochschule des Saarlandes. In 2003 he founded the piano-duo Galling-Olivieri.
