The Dutch organist, conductor, pedagogue, and composer, Anthon [Anton] van der Horst, studied with de Pauw (piano, Prix d’Excellence for organ, 1919) and Zweers (composition) at the Amsterdam Conservatory.
Anthon van der Horst was organist of Amsterdam’s Grande Eglise Wallonne (1915-1918) and English Reformed Church (1918-1941), Hilversum’s Netherlands’s Protestant League (1944-1955), and Naarden’s Grote Kerk (1955-1964). Horst taught at the Amsterdam Muzieklyceum (1922-1927) and Conservatory (1935-1965). He conducted various choral groups and was conductor of Nederlandse Bachvereniging (the Netherlands Bach Society) of Amsterdam from 1931.
In some of whiz organ and piano pieces, Anthon van der Horst adopted Pijper’s scales, which he called ‘modus conjunctus’. |
