Regarded as one of Australia's foremost choirs, The Imogen Children's Chorale (= ICC), named after the English conductor, composer and music educator, Imogen Holst, is known to audiences right across the country not only through its regular concert appearances, but also for its many live and recorded performances on national radio and television.
Choristers, whose ages range from nine to sixteen years, are selected into the choir from the senior classes in which they study vocal technique, languages for singing, theory of music and repertoire. In addition to their classes, choristers attend a weekly repertoire and performance rehearsal. The children sing in original languages an extensive repertoire that includes Masses, Oratorio, Opera, Early and Renaissance music, the Bach Motets, Folk music and a wide range of 19th to 21st century incidental music. Since its foundation by director Laurie Gaffney in 1987, the Chorale has gained an outstanding reputation for its versatility, professionalism and excellence in all facets of performance.
In addition to its own concerts and recitals, the Chorale performs regularly as a guest choir or opera chorus with orchestras and performing arts companies in many performance seasons and national broadcasts. Smaller groups and individuals from the Chorale also regularly perform as soloists and chorus members in local and national professional and semi-professional music theatre and opera productions.
The Imogen Children's Chorale launched their "Customs House Sunday Series" in Brisbane in September 1995. This very popular concert series has become a feature of Brisbane's artistic life and continues to attract audiences from the greater Brisbane area and beyond. The Chorale tours whenever possible nationally and internationally and has recently released its 5th CD. |
