The German tenor, Wilfried Jochens, grew up in Hamburg, where he was born. After graduation he studied music at the University and at the State College for Music and Fine Arts. His singing-teacher was Professor Johannes Hoefflin. He finished his studies with the following examinations: 1970 music-teaching, 1974 solo-singing (Lied and Oratory), 1979 solo-singing (opera).
Wilfried Jochens has been working as a concert singer since 1972, and has made distinguished name for himself, especially as the Evangelist in J.S. Bach's Passions. His repertoire includes also the main oratorios of J.S. Bach, George Frideric Handel, Monteverdi, Haydn, W.A. Mozart and Felix Mendelssohn, as well as smaller works like cantatas and solo-motets, Lieder recitals (Schubert, Robert Schumann, L.v. Beethoven, W.A. Mozart, Johannes Brahms, Strauss, Benjamin Britten, Alban Berg).
Wilfried Jochens has taken solo roles in numerous opera productions (e.g. Monteverdi, G.F. Handel, W.A. Mozart). His repertoire ranges from the Renaissance to contemporary works, and includes international experience of the historic performing practice of Baroque and Classical vocal music.
Concert tours took Wilfried Jochens to various towns all over Germany as well as to many European countries and to Israel. Many records and radio and TV appearances have made him widely known. He has taught singing in the Hamburg College of Music since 1982. |
