The American choral conductor, Mark W. Johanson, earned the Bachelor of Music Education degree from Valparaiso University in Indiana, where he studied with Joseph Bognar, Ralph Klapis, and Lorraine Brugh (2007-2011). Duribng his studies there he was active in the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and University Chorale. Being exposed to several forms and shades of Lutheranism at Valpo as well as throughout his life, he aims to utilize music to seek unity across borders that have separated the faithful.
Mark Johanson has served as Minister of Music at Ascension Lutheran Church in Charlotte, North Carolina since jULY 2011. In this capacity he leads choral and instrumental activities within the church, ranging from handbell ringing to a folk music ensemble. His exemplary keyboard skills are evident in his weekly leadership of hymns and liturgy from organ and piano in worship; outside of Sunday services, he is frequently engaged in collaborative piano and choral accompanying around the Charlotte region. Additionally, he is often engaged in music leadership at church conferences and workshops throughout the Metrolina region.
Mark ohanson holds membership in the American Choral Director’s Association, American Guild of Organists, and Association of Lutheran Church Musicians. He is an alumni member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia fraternity, and is an Eagle Scout. He and his wife Elizabeth Marquardt live in Charlotte. |
