The German choral conductor, Matthias Jung, received his earliest musical training at the Spezialschule für Musikerziehung and in the Radio Choir of Wernigerode. This was followed by studies in Choir Conducting under Gerd Frischmuth and Orchestral Conducting under Gunther Kahlert at the Hochschule für Musik "Franz Liszt" in Weimar. He also attended choral conducting courses in Vienna under Erwin Ortner, and in Stuttgart under Helmuth Rilling.
Matthias Jung's professional activities began as Musical Assistant to the Tölzer Knabenchor. The Vocal Consort Weimar, which he founded, won numerous prizes in international competitions and appeared in radio and CD productions. His association with the Dresdner Kreuzchor began in 1991. In 1994 he was appointed Acting Cantor, a position which he held until 1996. Under his direction the Dresdner Kreuzchor produced recordings for Deutsche Grammophon. In 1996 he founded the Sächsisches Vocalensemble in Dresden.
Matthias Jung has received guest engagements with many renowned ensembles, including the Rundfunkchor Berlin and the Choir of the Norddeutschen Rundfunk, and has toured in Italy, Switzerland, France, Poland and the USA.
In 2001 Matthias Jung was awarded the Furtherance Award for Art and Culture of the City of Dresden. |
