The German counter-tenor. Axel Köhler, studied voice and violin at the Dresden College of Music. The young baritone went on to obtain his first engagement at the Landesthater in Halle. Having attended courses by Ank Reinders and Jessica Cash, he was able to change register and undertake counter-tenor parts from 1987.
Axel Köhler has sung numerous principal roles in operas and oratorios by George Frideric Handel, which figure prominently in Halle’s musical life. He has nade regular appearances in opera houses worldwide and taken part in many grammophone recordings. He has been freelance performer since 1990, but continues to appear at the Landesthater as a guest. |
