The Korean bass, Gun-Wook Lee (Korean: 이건욱), concluded his singing studies at the Seoul National University with the diploma. This was followed by a post-graduate studies at the Hochschule für Musik Köln with Professor Jacob and at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, 2nd Diploma (Masters) in Lied and Oratorio with Professor R. Knoll. He continued his studies at the Musikhochschule in Karlsruhe with Professor Hartmut Höll and Mitsuko Shirai Lieder performance. At the Hochschule für Musik und Theater "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" in Leipzig, he was a member of the master-class with Professor Hermann Christian Polster. He received the Agnes-Jacobi Award in 1996, and was awarded the Wagner scholarship of the Bayreuth Festival in 1999.
Opera Performances have taken Gun-Wook Lee to Salzburg, Leipzig, Stuttgart and Cottbus. Under the conductors Manfred Honeck, Udo Zimmermann, Hans-Joachim Rotzsch, Georg Christoph Biller, Helmuth Rilling, Fabio Luisi and Howard Arman, he has worked in numerous oratorio performances in Europe and Asia. He has given Lieder recitals at the Stuttgart Liederhalle, in Capri, Salzburg, Karlsruhe, Chicago and Seoul, etc. |
