Das Monteverdi-Orchester München (= MOM) was created 1982 by Wolfgang Kelber. It was the first orchestra in Munich, which played exclusively on historical instruments in historical performance practice. It consists of musicians from several European countries, which are proven specialists for historical instruments. The repertoire of the orchestra covers in particular the music of 17th and 18th centuries, such as the works of J.S. Bach, particularly the sacred cantatas of the Thomaskantor. The orchestra received invitations to the Göttinger Händelfestspielen, to the Bachfest München of 1990, the Festival "Musica Sacra International 1992" and undertook several concert tours, such as in 1988 to the former East Germany and in 1989 to the former Soviet Union.
Lately the work of the MOM has expanded also to the Classical period, and also toward Viennese. Thus in September 1995 two piano concertos of W.A. Mozart were appeared on CD as a co-production between the Bavarian Broadcast and Calig/Weltbild label. |
