The English baritone singer and actor, Benjamin Mahns-Mardy (Ó Dubhthaigh), began his musical training at the age of 6 by taking up the cello. Whilst still in primary school, he took up the clarinet and then later at the age of 11, took up the drums. Playing in ensembles, orchestras and singing in choirs at school and at the Bromley Youth Music Trust (BYMT), very quickly became part of the daily routine. At the age of 17, after auditioning for the Musical Rent, he received his first solo coaching to prepare for the role of Collins. A last minute change of heart gave him the impetus to apply for Musical theatre degrees. He then, subsequently studied for three years at Trinity Laban in Greenwich, obtaining his Bachelor of Arts degree in Musical Theatre (Voice) (2008-2011). From August 2011 to May 2013 he was active as Singer/Actor in Musical Theatre in the UK. He then moved to Germany, whete he obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in Classical Singing from the Hochschule für Musik und Theater "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" in Leipzig (2013-2017). He is currently nearing the end of his studies in an Master of Arts degree at the HMT "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" in Leipzig, studying with Professor Berthold Schmid.
Benjamin Mahns-Mardy started off in Musical Theatre and since 2011 has toured the UK within the fields of opera, operetta, musicals and theatre. Since 2013, he has been working alongside his studies, singing in regional concerts and has had theatre and concert engagements at MuKo Leipzig, HMT Leipzig, Opera Chemnitz, Goethe Theater Bad Lauchstädt, Händelfestspiele, Landesbühnen Sachsen, Central Theatre Leipzig, The Capitol in Mannheim, as well as multiple venues in the UK, the USA and Spain. He is also currently working on libretto texts for song cycles, together with German composer, Peer Baierlein. He is also a member of Ensemble Nobiles from Leipzig. He currently lives in London. |
