The Venezuelan choral conductor, pianist and percussionist, Xiomera Di Maio Alfaro, came to the USA in 1980 on a scholarship from her government to study music. She received her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees at Indiana University, where she studied Piano, Choral Conducting, Percussion and Voice. She also studied with Vance George (San Francisco Symphony Chorus Director Emeritus), and Ragnar Bohlin (San Francisco Symphony Chorus Director). She is a Certified Suzuki Piano Teacher, and also has Kodaly Level I certification from Holy Names College. She is a Grammy award winner/
Xiomera Di Maio has been teaching in the Bay Area since 1998. She has a private music studio in Lafayette, California, where she teaches piano and voice to very young children, and is also the chorus vocal coach, director's assistant, and accompanist at the renowned Stanley Middle School music program directed by Bob Athayde.
Xiomera Di Maio conducted the youth choir "Joyful Noise", at the Lafayette-Orinda Presbyterian church, and sang with the world-renowned San Francisco Symphony Chorus. She has been a guest conductor with the La Jolla Symphony Chorus; the Portland Unitarian Church Chorus; America Cantat Ensemble in Caracas, Venezuela; and was the founder and artistic director of the Las Voces Vocal Ensemble in San Diego. She has also been a coach for the SF Girls Chorus, San Francisco Symphony Chorus, and the UC Berkeley Choruses. She was the Director of the Crystal Choir (Foster City satellite), and also was the director of the Pacific Boychoir Academy (Contra Costa satellite). She joined the San Francisco Boys Chorus (SFBC) as Preparatory Chorus Director this year (2014). |
