The Armenian-born choral conductor and pianist, Gohar Manvelyan, started her music studies at the age of 4 with her father, the distinguished Armenian composer Haik Manvelyan who taught at the Yerevan State Conservatory after Komitas. At the age of 5, she was accepted to the Tchaikovsky Music School for gifted children in Yerevan as her music skills, including the perfect pitch and the exceptional musical abilities were noted by the adjudicators. At the age of 10, Gohar with her family moved to Moscow, Russia, where she studied both the piano and the organ at the Miaskovsky music school. After completing the school she entered the Academic Music College of the Moscow Conservatory after Tchaikovsky where she double majored in piano and choral conducting finishing both majors with Distinction. In Russia, she was voice coach/accompanist at Academic Music College at the Moscow State Conservatory (September 2005-May 2007), accompaning the voice lessons and playing at the recitals.
In 2005, Gohar Manvelyan moved to Montreal, where she continued her musical career as both choral conductor and pianist. In Canada she obtained Bachelor's degree in Music Performance, General from Concordia University (2007-2010); Graduate Diploma in Advanced Music Performance Studies, Music Performance, General from Concordia University (2010-2012); Master's degree in Choral Conducting from University of Sherbrooke (2010-2013); Master's degree in Piano Performance from McGill University (2012-2014).
Gohar Manvelyan musical activities in Canada include several appearances with orchestras, including the Orchestre Symphonique de L'Isle, under the baton of Maestro Cristian Gort and chamber orchestra Les Archets Galants under the direction of Hélène Gagné; as well as several solo recitals given in different halls of Montreal, Canada; including Pollack Hall, Tanna Schulich Hall, Redpath Hall, Clara Lichtenstein Hall of McGIll University, and Oscar Peterson Hall of Concordia University.
Gohar Manvelyan has worked as Chamber Choir Assistant Conductor at Concordia University (September 2008-April 2015), assisting Christopher Jackson at the rehearsals of the chamber choir and directing the choir at the concerts; University Chorus Accompanist at McGill University (since September 2012), accompanying and assisting the rehearsals of the University Chorus. She currenly lives in Montréal, Québec.
Her honors & awards include: Finalist of the Canadian Music Competition (June 2008); Golden Key International Society Lifetime Member at Concordia University (April 2010); Golden Key International Society Lifetime Member at Concordia University (April 2012), Granted for high academic standing. |
