Established in 2001, The Graduate Choir NZ is one of New Zealand’s premier choirs and has been described as a “national treasure”. Directed by Terence Maskell, this mixed-voice choir is known for the warmth and breadth of its sound, varied programming that is accessible and universal in appeal, and for the unique cultural blend of its singers.
In 2003, The Graduate Choir NZ won the Premier Prix in the inaugural national competition, The Classic Sing. 2005 saw the release of its first CD (“My Spirit Sang All Day”) that featured as No.1 for a number of weeks in the NZ Classical charts as well as receiving considerable air-time in the UK. In the same year, the choir undertook a hugely successful invitational tour to the UK appearing primarily as guest choir at the convention of the Association of British Choral Directors.
In 2007 the choir toured locally for the first time to Wellington, Palmerston North, Napier and Hamilton and released its second CD “A Sound Came from Heaven”.
The choir has performed before Bill Clinton and NZ Prime Ministers, in recordings for both radio and television, in regular collaboration with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra (under Otto Tausk, Roy Goodman and others), with the Dalewool Brass and numerous other musicians and ensembles. The choir has enjoyed considerable success in its local recitals (Auckland, Hamilton and Rotorua), and in 2008 made its first visit to Christchurch as well as releasing a third cd (“Sing in Exultation”- a Christmas compilation). Recently, The Graduate Choir NZ performed with great acclaim on the occasion of the launching of the new “supercity” of Auckland.
The Graduate Choir NZ is a charitable trust ("The Graduate Choir NZ Trust") and is administered by a Trust Board and management team comprising leading members of the community. The Graduate Choir NZ is a member of the New Zealand Choral Federation. |
