The ensemble Opus-Posth (Ансамбль Opus-posth.) was formed in 1999 by the violinist Tatiana Grindenko on the basis of the Academy of Early Music especially for the project New Sacral Space.
The ensemble's work is based on the concept of composer and philosopher Vladimir Martynov, which defines musicians' creative views in line with the contemporary cultural situation. This concept is reflected in the very name of the ensemble - Opus-Posth., which is a widely-used abbreviation of the Latin opus posthumus (posthumous work), normally given to a piece of music that is published only after the composer´s death. Today the words opus posth mean something greater than just a posthumous publication - they are connected with a new kind of music that appeared in the era of Postmodernism. The essence of the concept lies in recognising the irreversible nature of the process of the collapse of fundamental principles serving as a basis for compositional music and the birth of a new space for making music. Not to express and experience reality but to exist with it - that is the aim of opas posf music.
The ensemble Opus-Posth. is a unique orchestra which not only performs works by contemporary composers, but which also seeks out new form of expression in music. For over two years now the ensemble has been working in a previously nonexistent genre which lies on the borders between opera, concert, folklore and the avant-garde.
This has seen such multimedia projects as Night in Galicia, Seasons, Russo-German Requiem, Games of Angels and People, Song of Songs, BACH-2000, There Will Be No Winter, Songs of the Doomed and The Seven Last Words of Christ among others. The ensemble's repertoire includes modem (20th century) and cutting-edge (21st century) works by Russian and Western composers.
The ensemble Opus-Posth. has taken part in many projects of Vladimir Martynov, such as Night in Galicia (together with artist and illustrator Francisco Infante Arana and the Dmitry Pokrovsky Ensemble), the Requiem in Anatoly Vasiliev's production of Mozart and Salieri (together with the Sirin Chorale), Yuri Lyubimov´s production of Apocalypse, Folk Dance (with Gennady Abramov's Class of Expressive Plastic Movement).
The ensemble Opus Posth. has produced the CD's Hymns, Night in Galicia, Come In!, Canticum Fratres Solis..., Magnificat and Hymns, Requiem and Stabat Mater, Tetractis, Passionslieder, Litany of the Blessed Virgin and Joseph Haydn's The Seven Last Words of Christ, acclaimed by Strad magazine as best CD of the year (recorded with CCn'C Records and Long Arms Records with support from the Ford Foundation). |
