The American tenor and music pedagogue, Bryan Pinkall, obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Vocal Performance (2003-2007) and his Maste of Music degree in Vocal Performance and Conducting Performance (2007-2010) from Kansas State University. He was a Kauffman Scholar at the University of Missouri Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance (2010-2013) where he earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Voice Performance in 2013.
Bryan Pinkall is a professional singer since 2009. He performs and records with several ensembles and is an active soloist and operatic tenor. He recently had his solo Carnegie Hall debut in April 2014 as a soloist with the National Festival Chorus and was a soloist for W.A. Mozart's Requiem at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna in March 2016. He was named Distinguished Kansan of the Year in the Performing Arts in 2014 by the Topeka Capitol Journal. He is a Grammy-winning soloist and chorister with the Kansas City Chorale, recipients of the 2013 Grammy Award for Best Choral Performance and Best Engineered Album, Classical, and 2016 Grammy Award for Best Choral Performance. He was also an artistic director for the Emmy Award-winning Opening Ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, and the Opening Ceremony of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
In addition to the Kansas City Chorale, Bryan Pinkall is also a member of the Simon Carrington Chamber Singers and Te Deum Antiqua. He performs across the USA as a soloist in many early music and Baroque ensembles and has performed leading roles in operas such as Don Jose in Le Tragedie de Carmen, Don Ottavio in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni, Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus, Charles in Hotel Casablanca, Nelson Deadly in Too Many Sopranos, as well as Robert d'Guillaume in the world premiere of Not A Tenor with Capitol Opera. He was a featured soloist at the Grand Opening of the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in 2011 along with Plácido Domingo, Itzhak Perlman, and others.
Bryan Pinkall often performs as a soloist in orchestral settings with ensembles including the Kansas City Symphony, Kansas City Baroque Consortium, Washburn Univeristy Orchestra, Kansas State University Orchestra, Village Symphony, and Kansas City Civic Symphony.
From 2008 to 2010, Bryan Pinkall directed music at University United Methodist Church in Salina, Kansas on the campus of Kansas Wesleyan University. Currently, he is a professional musician at one of the world's largest Presbyterian congregations, Village Presbyterian Church in Prairie Village, Kansas. He was also a founding member of the NPM Composers Guild. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Music for the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance at Kansas State University (KSU). At Kansas State University, he also serves at the Administrative Director for the Summer Choral Institute, sponsored by KSU and the Master Teacher Institute for the Arts. He is the Founder and Education Director of the Kansas City Vocal Institute (since February 2010), which provides free or greatly discounted music education for underprivileged children and families in the Kansas City metropolitan area.
Honors & Awards: Bryan Pinkall won the Ellen Battell Stoeckel Fellowship from Yale University in 2012, was a Kauffman Scholar at the University of Missouri Kansas City from 2010-2013, and won the 2010 Kansas National Association of Teachers of Singing Artist Awards, 2010 Kansas State University Music Department Honors Recital Competition, 2008 National Association of Teachers of Singing West Central Region Graduate Men Division Scholarship Awards, and the 2008 Kansas State University Aria Competition. He was a finalist in the 2010 National Opera Association Opera Scenes Competition and the 2010 Kansas State University Golden Key Honors Society Graduate Teaching Assistant of the Year Award. |
